As icy weather strikes the Fort Worth area again, we see the same weather-related problems. There are cancellations or delays for school districts, cancellations of flights, select power outages and a large number ofcar wrecks as a result of slick roads.

There were dozens of weather-related wrecks this weekend, with Fort Worth firefighters responding to 176 accidents on Sunday.  Out of all of the wrecks this weekend, only one resulted in death.

Arlington police said icy conditions likely led to a fatal accident Sunday afternoon on U.S. 287. The wreck took place in the afternoon while a driver was standing at the side of the northbound lanes near a disabled pickup. A vehicle came off the overpass, lost control and hit the man and pickup. The unidentified pickup driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the second vehicle was taken to Medical Center of Arlington with injuries that are not life-threatening, Arlington police said.

As subfreezing temperatures are expected to continue for at least the rest of the day today and tomorrow, travel safely. There are still icy patches on roads that can cause serious damage.

As a personal injury lawyer, I know that negligent driving in inclement weather is one of the most dangerous types of driving situations possible. These are the times where you need to be extra aware- not extra consumed in anything else but the road.

I’m hoping this winter weather will all be gone soon so that icy roads are no longer a hazard for all of North Texas. In the meantime, stay warm and stay safe.
