Although the threat of icy roads mostly meant lighter traffic for many in the Fort Worth region yesterday, other areas of North Texas experienced much worse conditions.
Perhaps the area the suffered the most was Corsicana, where some motorists were stranded in a 20-mile backup on I-45.
According to TxDOT officials, the severe delays in the area were the result of an 18-wheeler jackknife accident which occurred around 3:00am. This, coupled with multiple other minor wrecks, severely impeded road crews attempting to treat the roads ready for the morning rush hour.
Some motorists reported being stranded on I-45 for several hours as a result of the delays.
Elsewhere, both I-30 and I-20 on the Tyler and Kaufman County line experienced major backups as a result of residual ice buildup.
Fortunately, it does not appear that anyone was seriously injured in any of these incidents. However, there was at least one reported fatal crash that occurred elsewhere in the DFW region on Sunday.
