ARLINGTON – New evidence reveals clues about the death of Kelly Walters.

University of Texas student Kelly Walters was crossing the street Friday night when an SUV hit her and drove off. The impact killed Walters.

The hit and run accident happened across from Ellis Elementary School in Arlington, and now surveillance video taken from a security camera might provide clues about the assailant’s identity.

Additionally, police have collected a few car parts from the scene and aim to match them to a vehicle.

What are the rights of a hit and run victim?

Hit and run accidents are angering and extremely frustrating. In some cases, the at-fault driver is found and must pay the repercussions. In other cases, the hit and run driver is never found, but the victim walks away with minor damages. And then there are terrible cases like above, where the at-fault driver takes an innocent life.

If the police never manage to track down the driver at large, there are precious few options left for the victim, particularly in terms of compensation for medical bills, property damage and suffering.

If you’ve been injured in a hit and run accident and the driver can’t be found, your best bet is to file a claim using your uninsured motorist insurance. This insurance is meant to cover you in instances where the at-fault driver doesn’t have insurance or, in some cases, when you’ve been involved in a hit and run.
