Three teenagers were killed and five others injured when the pickup truck they were riding in crashed into a ditch in Lamar County early Sunday morning.

According to the Department of Public Safety, the 2005 Chevrolet was being driven by Robert Russell, 18, of Paris, TX at the time of the collision.

Russell apparently lost control of the truck, which hit a tree, and ended up in a ditch. Russell was killed in the wreck, as were two female passengers who have been identified as Colbie Miller, 19, and Bailee Elizabeth Sims, 19, both of Paris.

The five other teen passengers riding in the pickup were all taken to hospital following the truck wreck. They have been identified as Johsua Chitsey, 18, of Mt. Vernon; Dylan Stephens, 18, of Paris; John Oud, 18, of Mt. Vernon; Colby White, 18, of Mt. Vernon; and Brittney Ann Beshirs, 18, of Reno.

Although each of those injured suffered varying extents of injuries, it is not understood that any suffered life-threatening injuries.

It is not believed that alcohol was a factor in the deadly wreck, although speed has been cited as a factor.

The accident occurred near the Pat Mayse Lake damn on Hwy 906, just south of the Oklahoma border.
