Alcohol-Related Auto Accidents in Ellis County

As a Dallas-Fort Worth personal injury lawyer, I know that traffic accidents caused by drunk drivers can happen anywhere. In fact, statistically, there are more alcohol-related auto fatalities in dry counties than counties where alcohol is available for purchase, according to the National Center for Statistics and Analysis (NCSA).

Ellis County does permit the sale of beer, wine and distilled spirits on a county level, but there are a number of cities which restrict the sale of various alcoholic beverages. The following information is sourced from the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission website and is understood to be correct as of November 2011.

Completely Dry Cities in Ellis County

  • Bardwell
  • Ferris
  • Maypearl
  • Milford
  • Oak Leaf
  • Ovilla
  • Palmer
  • Pecan Hill

Cities within Ellis County where the sale of alcoholic beverages to be consumed off-premises is restricted (beer and wine for off-premises consumption is authorized but sale of distilled spirits is not/or mixed beverages are only authorized in restaurants):

  • Ennis
  • Italy
  • Mansfield (part)
  • Midlothian
  • Red Oak
  • Waxahachie

No cities in Ellis County completely prohibit the sale of alcoholic beverages for off-premises consumption other than those considered completely dry.

Personal Injury and Wrongful Death Claims

Although driving while intoxicated is punishable under Texas state law, criminal proceedings against the drunk motorist do nothing to help the innocent bodily injury or wrongful death victim’s family. As a result, it is important that you consult with a board certified car wreck attorney who will be able to explain your legal right to make a civil claim for compensation against the negligent driver’s insurance company.
